On 18 July 2026, Prof. Çisil Sohodol, Director at CIFAL Istanbul, explored the changing nature of global competition and the growing importance of integrated innovation and production ecosystems in an article published in Dünya Gazetesi.

Abstract

Global competition is increasingly shaped not by the strength of individual companies alone, but by the capacity of entire ecosystems to connect technology, human capital, investment, research, supply chains and public policy. China’s recent automotive export performance illustrates how long-term coordination across manufacturing, energy, logistics, infrastructure and innovation can create competitive advantage even amid rising protectionism and geopolitical uncertainty. Similar approaches can also be seen in industrial strategies pursued by the United States and the European Union, where policy increasingly focuses on strengthening broader ecosystems rather than supporting companies in isolation. The article emphasizes that future competitiveness will depend on how effectively countries can generate knowledge, translate it into innovation and align universities, research centers, industry, entrepreneurship and public institutions around shared strategic goals. From Türkiye’s perspective, building such interconnected and adaptive ecosystems will be critical to sustaining competitiveness in a rapidly changing global economy.
